Capacity Building Project on APEC Economies

Published On: 26-Jan-2019

A workshop on ecolabels and green consumption was held in Beijing in November. GEN member China Environmental United Certification Center (CEC) undertook the capacity building project in early 2018 in order to facilitate environmental cooperation of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies, actively promote green trade and green consumption, and improve the awareness of green products in both public and private sectors of APEC economies. The workshop was a key outcome of the project.

At the workshop, participants introduced and discussed the status and future development of typical green products in APEC. They reached consensus that environmental labelling schemes enjoy high popularity with very high government and public recognition and play a remarkable role in improving the environment. In addition, the environmental labelling schemes of APEC economies have laid a good foundation for wider application, extension and further cooperation in the APEC region. In the near future, it is expected that the increased development of ecolabel products in APEC economies will expedite green development overall.

More than 40 people including GEN members from Norway, Russia, Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand participated. An official of the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment and experts on green procurement and green consumption from 12 APEC economies also attended the meeting.
